Ammolite
Ammolite is Canada's Gemstone. Extremely rare and elegant, Ammolite's iridescent colours glow with the beauty of the rainbow.
Ammolite is found only in Southern Alberta, Canada. Ammolite was first discovered by the Blackfoot Indians in an area bordering the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Only limited quantities of Ammolite are available, thereby enhancing the value of this unique North American gemstone.
Millions of years of tectonic pressure created this brilliant gem from the fossilized remains of the ammonite shell. A glittering addition to any jewellery collection, Ammolite's luminous qualities rival the famous black opal for colour and fire. Each Ammolite gem is unique in brilliance, colour and pattern. The rarest and most desirable show three or more colours and are graded AA.
We have a great selection of original designs created by Luc Laframboise. Come and see these elegant jewellery pieces in their full brilliance at our store in the byward market, downtown Ottawa. There's nothing like it!
How to care for your Ammolite:
Ammolite, like all gemstones, should be cared for in a gentle manner. Most Ammolite gemstones are protected by a spinel cover and need no special care during regular wear. Natural Ammolite gemstones, like pearls, are delicate and should be stored separately from other jewellery to prevent scratching.
